Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled its future range of electric SUVs along with its sub-brands and dedicated EV platform as well. The first of these five electric SUVs will go on sale towards the end of 2024. Mahindra’s new INGLO EV platform uses Volkswagen’s MEB platform components and will underpin all of Mahindra’s future EVs. Apart from this, all these SUVs will be sold under their respective sub-brands. Let’s find out everything about Mahindra’s Born Electric future:

According to Mahindra, the INGLO platform offers class-leading safety standards, exhilarating performance, excellent range and efficiency, exemplary driving dynamics, versatility and intelligent HMI. The platform gets augumented reality-enabled heads-up display, edge-to-edge HD screen, 5G network capability and Over-The-Air updates. This skatboard platform is versatile and enables Mahindra to develop multiple body styles catering different segments. The platform will use LFP chemistry batteries since they are safe and robust. The battery capacity will range between 60-80 kWhr and offer the capability of 175 kW fast-charge enabling charging up to 80% in less than 30 minutes. In the rear-wheel drive format, the powertrain is capable of producing upto 170-210kW whereas the all-wheel drive variant can produce 250-290kW.

Mahindra promises a 0-100km/h time between 5 to 6 seconds. to enhance the range, Mahindra has added an intelligent electronic brake system that offers best-in-class recuperation potential. Enhanced aerodynamics, reduced rolling resistance with 5.5 RRC tires and sophisticated zero-drag wheel bearings, high-efficiency cooling & HVAC system with minimal power consumption are some of the other measures Mahindra have used to optimize range. The platform also focuses on a sporty ride and handling balance and brake-by-wire technology coupled with drive modes helps in enhancing the experience. Mahindra is targeting a 5 star GNCAP rating with this platform and it is also compatible with Level 2+ autonomous driving capabilities.

Mahindra’s EV portfolio will be divided into XUV.e and BE sub-brands. The XUV.e brand is the electric derivative of the current XUV brand and will feature current I.C.E models with electric powertrain. The Twin Peak logo will be Copper in colour as opposed to the standard black. The BE or Born Electric brand on the other hand will feature all-electric SUVs from the ground up. Both the sub-brands will be share their powertrain, platform and even the new Heartcore design philosiphy. Let’s take a look at each of these SUVs in detail:

The XUV.e8 will be the first INGLO platform based electric SUV to be launched by Mahindra. The XUV.e8 is essentially the electric version of the XUV700. The overall design and interiors of the EV is exactly the same as its I.C.E sibling. However, the design gets a lot of tweaks to make it look more futuristic like an EV. It gets a full-width LED light bar in the front , a closed-off grille and the headlamps are now moved to bumper. The rear is more or less similar to the XUV700. The interior sees the addition of a large slab with end-to-end screen. The XUV.e8 measures  4,740mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,760mm in height. It will have a wheelbase of 2,762 mm. Mahindra has confirmed that it will comes with an all-wheel-drive system.

The XUV.e9 is not based on any current I.C.E model but we do believe that it is a coupe derivation of the XUV700. The XUV.e9 measures 4,790mm in length, 1,905mm in width and 1,690mm in height. The XUV.e9 will have a wheelbase of 2,775mm. It will be a 5-seater model and share components with the XUV.e8. The design is quite sharp with the LED light bars in the front and back and the black cladding all-around. However, the talking point of the design has to be the coupe-like sloping roofline.

The BE.05 is the first electric SUV which will go on sale under the BE brand. Classified as a Sports Electric Vehicle, it gets a futuristic design with lots of cuts and creases. The front gets large air dams and a C-shaped LED lighting setup. It gets large wheels and square off wheel arches on the side and a sloping roofline too. The rear features C-shaped taillamps which matches the lighting setup in the front. The interior of the BE.05 is driver focused with all the switchgear and controls tilted towards the driver’s seat. It gets a twin HD screen setup and the centre console houses a large gear selector and a rotary knob for various functions. The BE.05 measures 4,370mm in length; 1,900mm in width and 1,635mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,775mm. This EV will go up against Tata’s Curvv which is also an SUV coupe of similar dimensions.

The BE.07 is a more traditional family SUV. It gets a boxy design but carries over the C-shaped headlights and taillights from the BE.07. It gets large wheels and flush door handles as well. The BE.07 will focus more on the in-cabin experience and come with a huge end-to-end screen and haptic feedback buttons. It also gets a large panoramic sunroof to give it that airy feeling. The BE.07 measures  4,565mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,660mm in height, and has a 2,775mm wheelbase.

The BE.09 will sit at the top of the Mahindra BE lineup. The BE.09 will be a coupe-SUV based on the BE.07 and will feature a more sporty design. The coupe-like roofline of the BE.09 will be more prominent when compared to the BE.05. Like its siblings, the BE.09 features C-shaped elements for the lighting. The BE.09 is claimed to be four seater rather than 5 and Mahindra calls it a grand tourer. Mahindra hasn’t revealed the dimensions or launch timeline of the BE.09 yet. However, one can expect it to be bigger than the BE.07 and launch sometime in 2027 or even early 2028.
